BENTONVILLE, Ark. (UATV)–“What I do normally for my photography, I wander along the American desert and see what I can discover. And as I’ve wandered along I’ve found objects and brought them back for Guillermo who then builds instruments out of them,” said photographer Richard Misrach.
Border Cantos is Crystal Bridges newest exhibit.
The two artists, Misrach and Guillermo Galindo began working on the pieces twelve years ago after a discovery in the desert.
“In 2004 I discovered a water station basically a water barrel where humanitarians put water out in the middle of remote areas of the desert for people coming across,” said Galindo.
Since then, Richard has taken over 10,000 photographs along the 2,000 mile border while Guillermo focuses on creating the structures and music for the exhibit.
“I don’t think I ever made a decision, I feel like this thing came to me from somewhere and I’m just a conduit that lets this idea come out,” he said. “It’s a grain of sand that Richard and I are putting in the world so that we can hopefully experience a change of mind of people.”
