Nov. 11th, Veterans Day, is important to more than just veterans. It’s a day where Americans show respect to those who served in the armed forces.

Army Veteran Erika Gamboa knew she wanted to enlist even when she was a teen.

“When I was 17 I met a recruiter who said I could join at 17, so I did,” Gamboa said.

Gamboa uses this day to reminisce on her time in the military.

She served as a single channel radio operator in the Army and then became part of the University of Arkansas’ Veteran’s Resource and Information Center.

The University of Arkansas is showing their appreciation for veterans by lighting the stadium green on this Veterans Day.

“As a part of our athletics department one of things that we want to do is we want to honor and provide tribute to those who have served in the U.S. forces,” Associate Athletics Director Elvis Moya said.

Gamboa and other Fayetteville residents will be on hand to witness this event.

“The green light is just another way of saying thank you for your service, we support you and we’re leaving a light on for you,” Gamboa said.
