Investiture Ceremony Being Held for Chancellor Steinmetz Today

Today at 2 p.m. Chancellor Joseph E. Steinmetz will be formally vested with the symbols and ornaments of his position in an investiture ceremony held in the Faulkner Performing Arts Center.

An investiture ceremony is a formal presentation of rank, commonly held within the first year of a president or chancellor’s tenure.

UA System President Donald R. Bobbitt and the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees will host the event and President Gordon Gee from West Virginia University will be the keynote speaker.

During this time, Chancellor Steinmetz will share details about the  Eight Guiding Priorities  he recently drafted for the University of Arkansas.

The eight include:

  • Advancing Student Success
  • Building a Collaborative and Innovative Campus
  • Enhancing our Research and Discovery Mission
  • Enriching Campus Diversity and Inclusion
  • Investing in Faculty Excellence
  • Promoting Innovation in Teaching and Learning
  • Reaffirming our Land-grant and Flagship Responsibilities
  • Strengthening Graduate Education

“As part of this comprehensive approach to campus planning, Chancellor Steinmetz has met with every academic department,  many interdisciplinary programs and centers on campus, students, faculty, and staff. The purpose was to help him to gain a deeper knowledge of the issues faced by the academic units, while providing an opportunity for departments to share their strengths, priorities, and future direction,” according to the U of A website.

All of the university community is invited to attend, however seating is limited to 585 people.
