Miss America to Come Home on ‘Savvy Saturday’

The 2017 Miss America Savvy Shields is set to return to Fayetteville Saturday Oct.22 in lieu of her big win in Atlantic City.

Her homecoming is part of a week long celebration of her achievement with the U of A community.

Shields will participate in the “Miss America Welcome Home Parade,” which starts at 4 p.m and will lead down Dickson Street to the Chi Omega Greek Theatre.

She will be joined by Miss Arkansas, Miss Mississippi, Miss South Carolina, Miss Washington, Miss New York, Miss Tennessee, Miss Oklahoma, Miss Alabama, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen and Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen.

Shields will also participate in events in Little Rock on Oct. 20-21, including a stop at the Governor’s Mansion, a visit to Arkansas Children’s Hospital and a black-tie gala.

Her last scheduled appearance will be at a breakfast in the Kappa Kappa Gamma house Sunday Oct. 23.

Shields’ success opened the door for another University of Arkansas student, Savannah Skidmore, to become Miss Arkansas.

Skidmore was a World Anchor for UATV and is a senior journalism major.
