As the school year unfolds and students are adapting to many changes on campus from new bus routes, pickup times and even new parking lots, U of A Parking and Transit services are combating higher enrollment, and overcrowded lots this year by adding over three locations for students with green permits for parking.
The three include Lot 74 A, B and C.
Since it’s completion around Sept. 1, students have been utilizing parking lots on my right here. We’ve had over 500 new spaces come in since Sept.1 and a lot of people have been coming down Razorback road and Meadow St. to try to get to them.
The only problem is that not a lot of students know that these parking lots exist, but those that do find it to be rather convenient.
“What I’ve noticed about this area is that it’s not as crowded or busy, you’re not fighting for a parking spot, and not having to get to class 10 to 15 minutes earlier than usual. That’s what I like about it, theres not that much traffic back here either so it makes getting in and out a lot easier.”
A new four way traffic light has been installed on Meadow St. and Razorback road to assist with the flow of traffic in these highly populated areas.
Still, new lots appear to not be receiving the same attention as larger parking areas such as Lot 56.
“I’ve been parking here in this student area for about three weeks now since class started. It’s usually pretty vacant, I know that they just open these back sections so I think once people find out about it they’ll start filling up.”
As of Sept.6, Lot 56 D closed for further expansion, leaving Lot 74 A, B and C open for students to park.
