The U.S. Department of Justice ended a two year investigation against the IRS today. The investigation began in May of 2013 when Lois Lerner an IRS official apologized for, “inappropriately scrutinizing some groups applying for tax exemption.”
The investigation was launched in suspicion that officials at the IRS had targeted conservative groups and denied tax exemptions based on their political viewpoints.
Today, Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik closed the investigation. “The probe found substantial evidence of mismanagement, poor judgment and and institutional inertia leading to the belief by many tax-exempt applicants that the IRS targeted them based on their political viewpoints. But poor management is not a crime.”
