The University of Arkansas has been on the hunt for their next chancellor, but in the meantime Dan Ferritor will carryout the job as interim chancellor.

“This institution is I think one of the best in the country,” Dan Ferritor said.

Ferritor is no stranger to the University of Arkansas. He has been involved with the university since 1967 serving as chancellor from 1986-1997.

There were two things the U of A asked Ferritor to do in his time serving as chancellor.

“They wanted me to build an arts center, and that is Walton arts center down on Dickson Street and renovate Old Main,” Ferritor said.

Chancellor Ferritor believed that the university had not done a good job taking care of a landmark, so he moved forward and did exactly what he was asked to do.

“I had to raise a lot of money for old main and if you go over there and look at Old Main you’ll see outside of every door there is a little plaque that says someone’s name, and I probably went to those people and begged them for money. I told them Old Main was the three R’s; room, romance, and revitalization. Fixing old main would be a sign that the university was back on the map.”

The university is in the final stages of selecting the next chancellor. The three remaining candidates come from Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and Ohio State University.

“They need to learn what it means to be a unique razorback,” was Ferritor’s advice to the next chancellor.
