University of Arkansas head women’s basketball coach Tom Collen has been dismissed from the program. Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long announced the decision Friday, and said the Razorback women’s basketball program is in need of change.
According to the Arkansas Razorbacks’ press release, “Our program has not made the progress necessary to position Razorback women’s basketball to challenge for Southeastern Conference championships and consistently compete in the NCAA Tournament,” Long said. “The goals for our women’s basketball program remain the same and we will conduct a search to identify a head coach who we believe can help us attain those goals. “
A nationwide search is underway for the next Razorback women’s head basketball coach.
Collen began his tenure with the Razorbacks in 2007, and in seven seasons he coached the team to one NCAA Tournament appearance and a record of 132-90 overall and 40-68 in the Southeastern Conference.
In a statement released by Collen- “I know that the administration will work hard to secure a great coach and a great leader as they move forward. I wish the administration and, most importantly the players, the best of luck. I know they will be successful in the future.”
