The second astronaut to orbit Earth died at the age of 88 today. Scott Carpenter was a member of Mercury Seven…the first team to attempt orbital space flight in February of 1962. These astronauts were chosen by NASA and are considered to be the pioneers of space exploration. After Carpenter’s Death, John Glenn is the last survivor of Mercury Seven.
