Effects of Rising Temperatures on Cars

Fayetteville (UATV)- With temperatures beginning to rise, you may not be the only one feeling the effects of the heat. Your car could be at risk, too.

Grease Pig Shop Manager, Michael Murphree says that with the increase in heat, people should pay more attention to the upkeep of their vehicle. “When the heat starts to rise, the most common thing I see is belts and hoses breaking.”

The transmission is the functioning heart of your car, and if the heat damages that, you could be looking at a multi-thousand dollar repair.

Vehicle owner and Grease Pig Customer, Michelle Sasnett says that she relies on the professionals to take care of her car’s upkeep, “Newer cars; there’s just so much you have to know about them, and I don’t.”

But, it’s not just about the belts, hoses, and what’s under the hood. While many people are worried about debris, glass, and nails damaging their tires, heat can actually hurt your tires even more.”

“People don’t realize that when your driving, the temperature of the tire gets hotter and gets a lot more pressure,” Murphree says, “they need to be at the direct pressure and checked year round.”

Besides staying up to date on your oil changes, make sure your care is getting checked regularly during the summer months.

“My car was overheating a little bit,” says Sasnett, “I’ve had tires blow out because of the heat.”

Murphree says, “As the weather gets warmer, people realize they need to get things checked out. If they don’t know a lot about them, take them to someone who does.”

You can check your cars for proper inflation, keep your battery clean, and protect your interior with proper coverings.
