As the gun control debate continues, the Obama administration took some initiative earlier today with their gun violence agenda. President Barack Obama laid out several gun control proposals before signing 23 executive actions that don’t require congressional approval. Some of the actions include universal background checks before the purchase of a firearm, a ban on military style assault weapons and a ban on high capacity magazines. President Obama urged Americans to stand in support of the orders and ask their member of Congress to support the bills as well.
David Keene President of the National Rifle Association says he is not concerned about Obama’s actions. Obama says there is little chance that some of these steps will gain congressional approval, but he is still making every effort to reduce gun violence.
