For the first time since the Reconstruction period, Republicans gained controlled of the Arkansas state senate Tuesday.
Today, they elected their new president.
Senator Michael Lamoureux from Russellville is the new president of the chamber.
The election of Lamoureux had no opposition during a voice vote.
During the first few days of G-O-P controll, the senate plans to appoint committee assignments and decide which members will serve two years and which will serve four years.
Lamoureux says the senate is prepared to work bipartisanly and solve the state’s problems.
