Three days after the Joplin tornado occurred, I was able to go with some of my classmates and see the damage that had swept through.
Along with the thousands of homes and buildings that were destroyed, the Joplin school district was heavily affected, including Joplin High School. The remainder of the school year was cancelled, but school administrators have stated that school classes will begin on time on August 17th and they have found alternative locations to hold classes.
Joplin School Superintendent C.J. Huff has said the damages for the school district is an estimated $151 million. And while the district does have full insurance and has plans to start rebuilding there is still a long recovery ahead for the Joplin school district.
