There is a new sound dominating clubs on dickson street and the ears of those on the University of Arkansas campus. UATV’s TJ Carpenter talks DJ Domewrekka about this new sound.
Love it or hate it, everyone is asking the same question: What is this sound?
Dubstep.
LIke so many modern musical movements, it started in England and has quickly moved to the United States. Ricky Black, who goes by the DJ name Domewrekka, has brought the movement to the heart of the midwest, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Black is known as the premiere Dubstep DJ in the area and has recently played a set in the Wakarusa music festival.
But the question remains, what is Dubstep?
“When Dubstep came a long it combined everything,” Black said, “like hip-hop, reagae, drum and base, other various electronic genres, and just rolled it all up in one.” But the question can be more simply answered, “Dubstep is “WUB.”
From youtube to the biggest clubs in New York, the popularity of this new sound is evident. Even on a Wednesday night in the middle of summer local club fix can pack the house when the headline is Dubstep.
But is this really the sound that defines a generation or just simply a fad?
“I think everybody as a whole – the community – will be the future of Dubstep,” Black said. “As long as they remain together then Dubstep has a future. If they start to fall apart then so does Dubstep.”
