1:46 p.m. Welcome to the official UATV Sports football game day blog. Obviously, today’s big matchup features an old Southwest Conference rivalry between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Texas A&M Aggies. If this game wasn’t already big enough, the stage is set in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the second annual Southwest Classic. The Razorbacks were the big winners last year, 49-17, and look to make it two in a row today. Arkansas comes in ranked 11th in the nation by the Associated Press and is 3-1 on the season. Texas A&M is 3-1 as well and 0-1 in the Big 12. Keep it here for detailed updates throughout the game. 2:35 p.m. Texas A&M wins the toss and defers to the second half. Arkansas will receive to start the ballgame.
2:38 p.m. Kickoff from A&M goes into the endzone and Arknasas kneels it to start their drive on the 20.
2:41 p.m. After a couple of short passes, Knile Davis pulls off a 45 yard run and the Hogs are on the A&M 8 yard line.
2:45 p.m. TOUCHDOWN ARKANSAS! Joe Adams hauls in the 8 yard pass from Mallett for the games first score. Arkansas 7 Texas A&M 0 with 10:51 to play in the first quarter. Hogs offense really moved the ball effortlessly down the field, including getting a big run play from Knile Davis.
2:49 p.m. A&M returns the kickoff to the 22 yard line. First look at the Arkansas defense today.
2:51 p.m. Arkansas gets A&M into a third down situation, but lets a 10 yard pass get by for a first down and the Aggies are out to the 32.
2:56 p.m. Hogs finally stop the Aggies on third down and force them to punt. 37 yard punt goes into the endzone. Arkansas back on offense with 6:30 to go in the first.
2:59 p.m. First play from scrimmage and Mallett throws an interception to Terrance Frederick. He returns it to the 2 yard line and the Aggies have some life in them.
3:04 p.m. Aggies can’t seem to move the ball one yard and the Hogs have them in a third down situation on the 2-yard line. BIG STOP FOR THE HOGS! 4th and goal and the aggies look like their going to go for it.
3:06 p.m. Touchdown Aggies. A&M goes for it on fourth down and finally crosses the goal line to tie it up at seven with 5:27 left to play in the first.
3:11 p.m. TOUCHDOWN ARKANSAS! A huge 71 yard heave by Ryan Mallett is pulled in by Cobi Hamilton and he just walks into the endzone. Arkansas back up on top 14-7 with 4:04 left in the first quarter.
3:14 p.m. With A&M back on offense, the Razorback defense can’t seem to make many stops on the short yardage situations and the Aggies have made it back out to midfield.
3:16 p.m. As I say that, Arkansas gets a great pass rush on Johnson and force him to throw it away on third down. Aggies with the punt and the Hogs will come back out to go for seven more. Drive starts on the Arkansas 13.
3:19 p.m. 13 yard pass to Jarius Wright and the Razorbacks will get a new set of down on the 32 yard line.
3:20 p.m. Broderick Green with another big run. This time for 23 yards. Seems like the run game got some work this week from Petrino and it shows. Ball now on the A&M 36.
3:27 p.m. Hogs get the ball in enemy territory, but go three- and-out, including a Ryan Mallett sack. Texas A&M receives the punt on the 8 yard line early in the second quarter. Arkansas 14 Texas A&M 7
3:37 p.m. Aggies seem to really be moving the ball well on the ground. Six first downs so far today and 73 yards on the ground. Johnson, however, is showing why they are running the ball so much. Only 3 of 12 on pass attempts and the Aggies are forced to punt again. Arkansas gets the ball back at their own 23.
3:43 p.m. Good mix of runs and passes. Hogs actually get two first downs before a penalty forces them back to the 33 yard line. The drive stalls on third down and they’ll be forced to punt from the 40-yard line.
3:44 p.m. The numbers for Mallett are good. 11 of 15 passes for 165 yards and 2 TDs, but team as a whole, not playing as smart football as they have shown they are capable of. Arkansas 14 Texas A&M 7 with 7:50 left to play in the first half.
3:47 p.m. 10 yard pass by A&M is knocked out by Greg Gatson and Arkansas recovers the fumble on the 37. The play is under review by the officials.
3:49 p.m. The call on the field is confirmed. It is a fumble and Arkansas goes on offense at the A&M 37 yard line, before a false start penalty pushes the Hogs back five yards.
3:52 p.m. Razorback offense, again, stalls on a three-and-out. Zack Hocker tries for the 47 yard FG, but it is pushed wide right. Score remains Arkansas 14 Texas A&M 7 with 4:57 left to play in the first half.
3:57 p.m. Another turnover caused by Arkansas and they recover the botched snap fumble by A&M on the 21 yard line. Arkansas needs to score before halftime.
3:59 p.m. You would think with a drive starting on the opponent’s 21 yard line that a touchdown was inevitable, yet Arkansas’ offense goes three and out again and tries for the fake FG and fail. A&M recovers the fumble and are back on offense.
4:02 p.m. Arkansas defense still playing strong and get A&M to punt the ball. Offense will start the drive on their own 43 with 1:56 to play in the first half.
4:06 p.m. A great grab by Greg Childs gets the Hogs down to the 6 yard line. They capitalize and Ben Cleveland hauls in the TD pass. TOUCHDOWN ARKANSAS! Kick is up and good. Arkansas 21 Texas A&M 7 with 53 seconds left in the first half.
4:10 p.m. Johnson goes for the deep ball into heavy Arkansas coverage. A&M draws the pass interference and the Aggies get a new set of downs.
4:11 p.m. Johnson keeps for 14 yard gain and the ball is now on the Arkansas 30 with 14 seconds left in the half. A&M calls timeout.
4:15 p.m. Johnson completes the 31 yard TD pass to Jeff Fuller with eight seconds left to play and the Hog lead dwindles down to 21-14 before halftime. Arkansas 21 Texas A&M 14.
4:17 p.m. And we hit halftime with Arkansas leading Texas A&M 21-14. Second half coming up in 20 mins.
4:24 p.m. By looking at the stats, you would think Arkansas would be up by more than seven points. Mallett: 17 of 22 for 229 yards and three TDs. Offense has racked up over 300 yards total and the defense has only allowed 153 yards. Yet, the score is 21-14 at halftime.
4:39 p.m. Second half is underway and Texas A&M will start their drive on the 32 yard line.
4:44 p.m. Arkansas gets A&M to punt and start their offensive drive on their own 26.
4:55 p.m. Both offenses go quiet for a few drives before Johnson connects on a 69 yard pass to Jeff Fuller. A&M just outside the redzone on the 21.
4:59 p.m. A&M throws a couple of incomplete passes and Arkansas avoids the big score by forcing the field goal from 38 yards out. Arkansas 21 Texas A&M 17 with 7:56 left in the 3rd quarter.
5:09 p.m. Arkansas defense doing everything they can to bail the offense out as they force another fumble and recover it at the 30 yard line of Texas A&M. 6:24 left to play in the third quarter.
5:12 p.m. Offense 4 of 11 on third downs and are forced to kick the FG. 37 yarder is good by Zack Hocker and the Hogs go up 24-17 with 5:04 left to play in the third quarter.
5:16 p.m. Defense again gets Texas A&M to go three and out and Hogs will try to get the offense going from the A&M 31 yard line.
5:20 p.m. A controversial play. A&M looked to intercept the ball on a short pass to Broderick Green, but the refs rule that Green had his knee down before the ball came out.
5:23 p.m. Hogs really trying to force the run on this drive. Another third down comes up and Mallett gets another incomplete pass to Joe Adams. Offense now 4 of 13 on third downs. Forced to punt.
5:25 p.m. Arkansas defense continues to outperform any aspect of the team. Jerrod Johnson sacked in the backfield for a loss of eight and its 3rd and 22 on the Aggie 5 as the third quarter comes to an end. Arkansas 24 Texas A&M 17.
5:30 p.m. A&M tries the shovel pass to Cyrus Gray but the first down line is too far away, forcing the punt. Arkansas back on offense.
5:33 p.m. There’s been a Javontee Herndon sighting…..15 yard pass from Mallett and its the first sign of life this Hog offense has shown since the 2nd quarter.
5:35 p.m. No shock here….Arkansas can’t get another first down and are forced to punt.
5:42 p.m. Big pass from Johnson to Fuller for 18 yards. The Aggies follow that up with a 13 yard gain by Gray. A&M has ball on 34 with 8:38 left to play.
5:44 p.m. Strong stand from the Arkansas defense on 3rd and 12 and A&M is going to have to punt.
5:50 p.m. With a little over 7 minutes left, it looks like Petrino is trying to run the ball as much as possible. Never thought that would be a better idea than trying to pass.
6:02 p.m. Hog defense makes another stop and forces the A&M punt. With 3:06 left to play, the Razorback offense will try to run out the clock and/or score once more to put the game out of reach.
6:08 p.m. Razorbacks take about two minutes off the clock and have to punt back to A&M. Arkansas calls a timeout with 1:25 left to play.
6:10 p.m. A&M will have 1:18 to work with and try to go 80 yards downfield.
6:12 p.m. A&M 0 for 2 on pass plays on this last drive. 3rd and 10.
6:13 p.m. HUGE SACK by Jake Bequette and A&M has to spike the ball with 25 seconds left to play. Ball on 33 yard line.
6:16 p.m. Big fourth down pass to Nwachuku is complete for a first down, but he stays in bounds and the clocks ticks. Very next play, Arkansas is called for a pass interference. Ball is on Arkansas 39 with six seconds left to play.
