A familiar face to most Razorback basketball fans is back in Fayetteville to join head coach John Pelphrey’s basketball staff. Scotty Thurman was named to Pelphrey’s support staff today as the Director of Student-Athlete Development.
Thurman, who played for the Razorbacks between 1993 and 1995 and hit arguably the most memorable shot in Razorback history, will be tasked with assisting the student-athlete development program, designing and implementing programs that focus on off-the-court development as well as mentoring student-athletes. Thurman will also be given assignments that deal with the Razorbacks various community service projects and helping to create a program that keeps former Hogs connected to the men’s basketball program.
“I am very excited to bring Scotty back to Fayetteville to be a member of our staff,” head coach John Pelphrey said. “He is a quality individual who will quickly develop a strong relationship with our players. He has had a chance to play not just at Arkansas, but also on the professional level, earn a degree and make a life for himself, all things that we expect our current and future players to do.”
During his playing days at Arkansas, Thurman was an All-American his junior year and ranks 10th on Arkansas’ all-time scoring list with 1,650 points. He still holds the single season record for three-pointers in a season, but it was his three pointer at the buzzer in the 1994 national championship game that defeated the Duke Blue Devils and secure the Hogs only national basketball title.
