University Planning To Change May Commencement Ceremonies

The University of Arkansas Vice Provost for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions, Suzanne McCray, sent an e-mail to select students today asking them to voice their opinions on changes to future Spring Graduation Ceremonies.

In the e-mail, possible changes include:

  • Having the separate college ceremonies spread out over Friday night and Saturday morning/early afternoon.
  • The Graduate School ceremony would be on Friday night and would be separate from the All-University event.
  • In the early evening on Saturday, there would be the All-University ceremony.

But the drastic change would come during the All-University ceremony. The event would no longer be held in Bud Walton Arena. It would take place outside on the Old Main lawn and would feature a nationally known speaker, some pomp and circumstance, and fireworks afterward.

The University is asking for student opinions on this idea. So we ask you, what do you think about the possible changes to graduation and would it affect your decision to attend?
