BREAKING NEWS: President of University of Arkansas System Announces Retirement

B. Alan Sugg released a statement earlier today announcing his retirement effective June 30, 2011.  Sugg has served at the University of Arkansas System president for the past 20 years.

Statement from Sugg:

“It is with mixed emotions that I inform you that I will be retiring as the President of the University of Arkansas System on June 30, 2011. I have loved every minute serving as system president for the past 20 years. I am so proud of your many efforts and accomplishments to help improve our state and the lives of its citizens through higher education. While I will be sad to leave next summer, I will always remember the wonderful experiences I have had in this position.

As to the future, I have great confidence that our Board of Trustees will select the right person to serve as the next system president. Because of your dedicated performance, I believe that the UA system presidency will be a highly sought-after responsibility, and the Trustees will have some excellent candidates from which to select your next president.

I wish the best for all of you, and I thank you and the Trustees for the privilege of serving as the President of the University of Arkansas System.”

In the 20 years serving as the president has overseen the addition of five cimmunity colleges and University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.
