Day two of the NCAA Tournament is in the books, and it was anything but a mirror image of the first day. On Saturday the top seeds proved their edge as every top four seed that played cruised to a victory, unlike Monday where 14th-seeded Ohio dropped third in the Midwest Region, Georgetown, in the nightcap.
I can honestly say I wasn’t pleased with my bracket today, but it did improve by one game finishing at 10-6 overall while only losing one Sweet 16 team (Utah State). However, a few of my upsets did not come through in the end as I predicted. Saturday begin with a big win from No. 12 Cornell over the 5th-seed Temple, 78-65, which I flexed my bracket muscle about. A few Spokane games would later turn the tides for my bracket after choosing double-digit seeds Siena (13) and Utah State (12) whom were both beaten easily by Purdue and Texas A&M respectively.
Was it just me or did anyone have flashbacks to the Arkansas Razorbacks of the 90s watching Missouri and Clemson? I mean I know former Hog assistant Mike Anderson is the head man at Mizzou but watching this game go back-and-forth reminded me of how games used to be at Bud Walton (sigh). In what was chosen as our “Game to Watch,” the black and gold Tigers prevailed, 86-78, over Clemson behind 20 points efforts from both Keith Ramsey and Kim English. This sets up a Sunday game against a lot of peoples’ East Region favorite, 2nd-seeded West Virginia.
Tomorrow’s opening game is No. 2 Villanova and 10th-seed St. Mary’s (CA) at 12:05 CST for this year’s first Sweet 16 birth. Thanks for visiting us and be sure to visit each day for our analysis of 2010 March Madness.
