Search For Hit-And-Run Driver

The Fayetteville Police Department says they are continuing the search for a hit-and-run driver that happened early Thursday morning.  Ronald Keen of Springdale said he stopped to secure something on the back of his pickup truck about 2 a.m. when a white car hit him.  He was on Wedington drive and got out of his truck when the vehicle hit him.  The Police Department said Keen suffered some possible broken bones and internal injuries but should recover.

Local Airport Gets New Concourse

Officials at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport approved $20 million for a new concourse on Wednesday.  Officials say the construction should be completed in the next two years. The project was first announced in early November 2009.  They plan to break ground in a few weeks.

Local School Making Up Snow Days on Saturdays

Prairie Grove schools is making the district’s students attend school on Saturday to make up for 7 and a half snow days they missed during the winter storm.  Officials say they are trying to fit as much class time in before the benchmark exams next month.

Student Wounded in Shooting at Northern Illinois University

A NIU student was injured in a shooting that occurred outside a residence hall on the campus of Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill. University officials said it was a isolated incident between two individuals and the suspect is in custody. This is the second shooting at Northern Illinois in two years. On Feb. 14, 2008, a former graduate student at NIU opened fire in a lecture hall, killing five and wounding 19 before turning the gun on himself.

Friends React to Pilot that Crashed Plane into IRS Building

Friends of the man who deliberately crashed his small plane into an Internal Revenue Service building in Austin, TX on Thursday say he showed no signs of rage. They said Joe Stack was a carefree, friendly and professional guy. The apparent suicide message left on a Web site registered to Stack shows a different side.

North Korea Vows not to Stop Nuclear Program

North Korea vowed not to dismantle its nuclear program today as long as the United States continues a “hostile policy.” The country said it would not even do so in exchange for economic aid. The United States believes that North Korea has enough weapons-grade plutonium to build a half dozen nuclear bombs. Bring Down the Deficit On Thursday President Obama issued an executive order that formally creates a bipartisan fiscal commission. This is the first step in forcing painful decisions needed to get the U.S. debt load under control. Raising taxes, cutting spending and reforming Medicare and Social Security are all fair game, and thought to be impossible without the backing of both Republicans and Democrats.

United States Still on Top of the Medal Count

Evan Lysacek became the first U.S. man to win the Olympic gold medal since Brian Boitano in 1988 in men’s figure skating.  Lysacek finished with a career-best 257.67 — ahead of Yevgeny Plushenko by 1.31.  Daisuke Takahashi won the bronze — the first Japanese man to fin a figure skating medal at the Olympic Games.

Women’s Basketball Team Wins Third Straight

The Hogs defeated Ole Miss 67-59 for their third consecutive SEC win. Arkansas (12-14, 4-9 SEC) had three players in double figures with 16 each from Ashley Daniels and Lyndsay Harris. Senior Charity Ford added 15 as Arkansas shot 49.1% for the game. This is the first home win in SEC play for the Razorbacks. Arkansas plays its final home game of the 2009-10 season Sunday hosting Alabama for Senior Day and Pink Day beginning at 2 p.m.
