UA Rape Suspect Pleads Guilty

The Former University of Arkansas employee pleaded guilty to assaulting a student.  Avery Scott assaulted a student late last semester.  University Officials said the woman was drunk and asked Scott to help her find her room. Scott pleaded guilty this week to sexual assault.  He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with eight years suspended.

Business Leaders Inducted Into Arkansas Business Hall of Fame

Four business leaders are being inducted in the Arkansas Hall of Fame.  Bill Clarke [deceased], Jerry Jones, Jim Lindsey and Tommy May are being inducted Friday night during the ceremonies at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.

Flute Fire On Beaver Lake

The Beaver Lake Fire Department reported a house fire off Red Bud Terrace off Highway 12 about 2:30 a.m. Monday.  WIll Hanna, Benton County Fire Marshall, said the fire was confined to the attic area when firefighters arrived to the home.

He may have been the GOP’s 2008 presidential nominee, but now he is facing a challenge on his home front.  Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth will announce today that he is challenging Republican John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat.

Alabama Shooter Details

A biology professor charged with killing three faculty members at the University of Alabama in Huntsville fatally shot her brother more than 23 years ago, but she and her mother claimed the shooting was accidental.  The professor was also a suspect in a 1993 mail bombing case.

Presidents Day?

It’s Presidents Day and that means retailers are rolling out sales and a day off for government employees and some students.

But it’s not really Presidents Day…the actual federal holiday is called “Washington’s Birthday,” after the nation’s first president, George Washington.

Train Collision

Eighteen people are dead and 55 are wounded after two trains collided in Belgium.  The trains collided head-on early this morning.  The cause of the accident is unknown and the number of fatalities may not be final.

Tennis Hogs Win Stunner in Tulsa

After trailing 3-1 in their match with the Golden Hurricane, the Hogs stormed back to win out in singles and defeat Tulsa, 4-3 Saturday at the Case Tennis Center. The clincher came at the No. 4 spot in singles, where Arkansas received a gutsy performance from sophomore Stephanie Roy. Roy, who was cramping throughout the second and third set of her match with Tulsa’s Anastasia Erofeeva, won her match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, to give the Hogs their sixth victory of the season in grand style.

Hamilton and MacPherson Clock NCAA Times

Freshman Cobi Hamilton and senior Scott MacPherson picked up NCAA provisional qualifiers for No. 8 Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field on day two of the Tyson Invitational.  “Overall, I think we had a good weekend,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “We got some things done and got guys qualified that we needed. We are going to take some time now and get ready for SECs. Cobi Hamilton qualifying in the 200 meters is a big breakthrough for him. He has his qualifying time so he can concentrate on training. Scott MacPherson is one of the toughest distance runners in the country. Razorback Hoops’ Streak Ends at Five

Courtney Fortson scored 18 points for the Arkansas Razorback men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon, but its winning streak was ended at five games in Tuscaloosa, Ala., as the Razorbacks fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 73-68.  Arkansas (13-12, 6-4 SEC) was outscored in the second half for the first time in Southeastern Conference play this season after leading 38-29 at the break. Alabama (14-11, 4-7 SEC) defends its home court and splits the season series with the Razorbacks.  “Alabama played very well in the second half,” Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey said.  “We didn’t do some of the fundamental things.  We are certainly disappointed.  They did a good job in the second half of getting around Courtney and denying some things.  They also made some good plays in the second half and hit 11 of 13 free throws.”
