Walton Arts Center Readies for Expansion

The Walton Arts Center approved measures Tuesday that will ready the Fayetteville landmark for growth and expansion into the future. Board of Directors Chairman Jeff Schomburger says the “Walton Arts Center is not moving, but we are growing and expanding. The coming months will be an exciting time as we work to move this vision forward.” The fear of many residents of Fayetteville was that the center would move from its Dickson Street location. The site selection for the center’s expansion should be completed by late summer.

Early Morning Fire in Rogers

Firefighters in Rogers responded to a fire at 2145 West Olive Street — the structure caught fire early this morning.  The Rogers Fire Department said the structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. Battalion Chief David Whitlow said in addition to fighting the fire — firefighters also had to battle the below-freezing temperatures.

Parking Deck To Get A Little Help

Officials from Washington County voted Tuesday to pull more than $2 million from the county’s reserve for overruns on the parking deck at the county courthouse.  The Finance Committee voted to recommend the Court to accept an offer from general contractor VCC LCC to complete the deck for $2.85 million.

Voters Decide on Eureka Springs High School

Residents voted Tuesday on a 1.98 mill property tax increase to help fund a new high school in Eureka Springs.  The tax increase adds about $39.60 extra per year for people with $100,000 worth of property. City officials say the campus will be built behind the Lake Lucerne Road middle school — all three city schools will then be on one side.

Another Fayetteville Store Received Permit to Sell Alcohol

On Tuesday the E-Z Mart on Wedington Drive in Fayetteville recieved approval to sell beer from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

Honda Announces Recall

Honda has expanded an airbag recall worldwide, covering 2001 and 2002 Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V, selected 2002 Acura TL vehicles, the Honda Pilot and Acura CL in the United States and the Honda Inspire, Saber and Lagreat in Japan. On its Web site Honda said the driver’s airbag inflators might expand with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to break and could lead to injury or death.

Endeavour Docks at Space Station

The space shuttle Endeavour docked with the international space station early today, completing a three-day orbital chase.  The delicate docking maneuver took place while both spacecraft were circling the globe at about 17,500 mph.

New York Governor Not Backing Down

New York Gov. David Paterson vowed  that he would not allow unfounded rumors to drive him from office and pledged to run for his own four year term in November.  The governor has been dogged for weeks by rumors of womanizing and illegal drug use.

Weather Warming Up for Northwest Arkansas

Highs in the 30s and lows in the mid 20s. Should be clear all day with light winds blowing throughout the day.  Tomorrow is slated to be cloudy with highs in the upper 20s and lows in the teens.  Small chance of snow throughout Thursday.

Winter Weather Strikes Across The Nation

As Northwest Arkansas digs out from the 6″ of snow that was dumped over the area Monday night, cities on the East Coast are preparing for blizzard like conditions. Washington D.C. and New York City are under blizzard warnings and expect the snow to fall at a rate of 2 inches per hour. The National Weather Service reports that 47 states have snow on the ground.

Hogs and Tigers Clash At Bud Walton

It’s a battle of worse versus first as the LSU Tigers (9-14, 0-9) come to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (12-11, 5-3). The Hogs took over sole possession in the SEC West after the team defeated the Auburn Tigers in overtime Saturday. Arkansas will look to extend its four-game SEC winning streak. Tipoff is set for 7 o’clock and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
