Representative John Boozman Announces Senate Run

Saturday Boozman [Republican] announced his intention to run for Democrat Blanche Lincoln’s Senate seat.  Sen. Lincoln has held her seat for two terms.  Boozman joins 10 other Republicans in the race.  Boozman told supports the Democrats under President Barack Obama are spending too much money — using the $3 trillion 2010 spending budget proposed by the president.

UA Basketball Players Cleared by Special Prosecutor

According to a press release from University Relations, Special Prosecutor H.G. Foster concluded his review of the criminal allegations against the three UA basketball players and decided the evidence did not warrant the filing of criminal charges.  Foster re-examined the negative test results from the Arkansas State Crime Lab from the DNA samples that were provided, voluntarily, by the three young men — and concluded the initial decision to not file criminal charges was the correct decision. John Pelphrey said in a statement released by the university that he will continue to stand by the student-athletes involved.

Razorback Fans Headed To Basketball Game Involved In Fatal Plane Crash

The four people who died in the crash of a single-engine airplane in southeastern Washington County were flying to Fayetteville to watch the Razorbacks face the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, according to a Hot Springs airport official.  The six-seat Ceechcraft Bonanza 36 crashed into a backyard outside Winslow, Ark. just before noon on Saturday, according to the Washington County sheriff’s office. Edward Cooper, Mary Cooper, Elizabeth Cooper, and Martin Draper were pronounced dead on the scene.

Winter Weather Hits Northwest Arkansas — Again

About four inches of snow covered the ground this morning causing 51 schools in the area to be closed.  This is the third time this year Northwest Arkansas has seen enough winter weather to close schools.  The sleet and freezing rain started falling about 9:30 p.m. and turned into snow about midnight. The snow is supposed to continue throughout the day and into the night — accumulating 4-6 inches of snow.

Razorback Mens Basketball — Hogs Win Fourth Straight

The Razorback men’s basketball team extended its conference winning streak to four games Saturday at Bud Walton Arena, as they defeated the Auburn Tigers in overtime, 82-79, to gain sole possession of first place in the SEC West. The Hogs were paced by sophomore Courtney Fortson, who led the team with 24 points, as well as four other Razorbacks who had double digit scoring.  Fortson also grabbed 10 rebounds to gain his third double double of the season. After being down two at the half, the Hogs came out firing to score 10 of the first 12 points in the second half and never seemed to let up the intensity. This most recent overtime game is the third for the Hogs this season. The team is 3-0 in overtime games this season.
