New College of Education and Health Professions Dean; Wal-Mart Lays Off Hundreds

Tom Smith will be the new dean of the College of Education and Health Professions for the UA.

Appointed by Provost Gaber, Smith, a professor of Special Education, will take his position March 1st.  Though he is still not officially the dean, he has been serving as Intermin Dean since August.  Smith’s appointment will run through June 2015.

Also, Wal-Mart announced today it will lay off 300 people at its headquarters in Bentonville.  This cut was called the last major step in a yearlong effort to streamline Wal-Mart’s operations.
